Scheduling

Is it better to have a tough schedule throughout the whole season? Or is it better to have some tough teams on the schedule, but for the most part have a lighter schedule of games?
To me, I feel that it is better to have a tough schedule throughout the whole season. Now, this could vary based upon what type of team you have. With our team, we can compete with anybody. My freshman year in the NCAA tournament, we faced the #1 team in the nation in the very first round.(Wooster College) Wooster had no idea what was coming. They thought we were just some team that they could look over and beat up on. We had them on their toes the entire game, and wound up losing 2-1. This was quite an experience, and I believe that the tough schedule that we had during the season, and with the tough conference that we play in, prepared us for this type of game.
This season, our conference is even tougher, and our schedule outside of the conference is tough. Down in Florida, our first game is against a top 10 team(Heidelberg College), and our second game in the same day is against another ranked opponent in Ohio Wesleyan. Those are the two main tough opponents amongst a strong list of teams on our schedule throughout the season. These games will prepare us for our conference games, and for the NCAA tournament in May.

Florida! Florida! Florida!

We leave for Florida in exactly one week, and I for one cannot wait. It is our spring break, and I could not ask for or picture anything better than playing baseball in a warm/hot climate for a week straight, not having to worry about school. Sitting here in Cincinnati, where it is in the 40's, will make Florida feel great because it is in the 80's down there. The only downside to this years' Florida trip, is that we will be driving down on a charter for the very first time. Obviously, it will take a much longer time, but all I will be thinking about is the warm weather and playing very competitive baseball.
Spring break is meant to be a time of relaxation, and to keep your mind off of school for a little while, which is exactly what we will be doing. Only difference between us and the majority of the students/athletes at the school, is that we will be playing the sport we love while on our spring break. What more can you ask for?

Cincinnati Weather

It is now 2 days until we play our first game, which is a home game at the University of Cincinnati. It is so hard to tell what the weather will bring us, because you never know what will happen in Cincinnati. I have checked the weather everyday this week, and it has said something different each time. One day it will say 47 degrees and partly cloudy, and the next day it will say 39 degrees with a chance of rain/snow showers. Now, it says it will be 44 degrees and partly cloudy with a chance of rain at night. Basically we will have to be prepared for anything, because the weather could change at the blink of an eye.

So Long Rec Specs

After just a couple weeks of practices, we received news that Chris Sabo will no longer be coaching for us this season. In a way, I am a little disappointed that we will not be having a former Major Leaguer coaching for us this year. I have had past experiences playing for Major League baseball players, and all have been very beneficial. I was looking forward to have another coach who has played in the majors, but now I am just looking forward to the season that is coming up in 12 days.

Rounding Third and Heading into Opening Day

MSJ Baseball's season starts in 13 days, and we are very excited to embark on a new season that looks to be a very promising year. The position players finally got to go outside and practice while the weather was somewhat warm. Outfielders were able to take fly balls, while infielders were able to take ground balls on a different surface other than the gym floor. There is so much more you can do during a practice outdoors, while in a gym you are limited with space to practice. With just 13 days left until the first game, we hope mother nature will help us out and grace us with warmer weather so that it is possible for us to practice outside.

A-Fraud to A-Roid

Another big name player in The MLB has been tested positive for steroids. A-Rod came clean, and admitted to taking steroids, in a chat with ESPN studio analyst Peter Gammons. In a 45 minute chat with Gammons, A-Rod admitted to and apologized for taking steroids. But what does this mean to the fans? Do we still hold to believe that A-Rod is still one of the greatest hitters of all-time? Do we think less of him for taking steroids?

To me, I still believe A-Rod is one of the greatest hitters of all-time. Steroids have nothing to do with how you see the ball, or choosing when or when not to swing the bat. It does, however, help hit the ball with more power that may add on about 20 or more ft. of distance. Like many others, he did break a rule and will deal with the consequences. he may lose some fans, and there will be people who think less of him. But I still think he is one of the best hitters in baseball.
